What Exactly does Anglo-Saxon Mean?

I feel like I’m connecting the dots in a kid's coloring book, waiting impatiently for the picture to appear so I can see what I’m really looking at.

Yesterday, I learned that MAGA is linked to Anglo-Saxon racism, prominent in the mid-1800s. Last night before I fell asleep, the history I uncovered during the day’s research was swirling around in my head. I was considering the term “Anglo-Saxon,” and my brain landed on WASP.

When I was nine years old, my family moved from a quiet neighborhood in Chicago to the affluent suburb, Highland Park, where I lived out my teenage years, two blocks south of the neighboring suburb, Lake Forest. During my time in HP, I came to understand that those from Lake Forest looked down on us Highland Parkers. This was because everyone in that community was WASP, while we were predominantly Jewish.

Mind you, this wasn’t something I learned in class, nor do I remember any specific incident that enlightened me. It’s just how things were. Highland Park was a community of Jewish Nouveau riche, and Lake Forest was old wealth, plus Christian, and, of course, white. They looked down their noses at us, and we thumbed our noses at them.
