The Finish Line in Sight… Write!

No matter what, on November 6th, I will still be me

Here we are. It’s November 1st, 2024. I thought we’d never get here; this has been the longest election season of my lifetime. I feel like I’ve run a marathon, been run over by a Mack truck, and driven through a car-B-Que inside a dumpster fire. Exhausted, battered, and bruised, I am crawling towards the finish line, four days until the election, two more articles to write.

There is still so much to cover, research, do, and say. It won’t all fit neatly in the time remaining. And so many people have already voted. Three weeks ago, I started this project with the goal to write every day before the election. I thought if I could convince even one person to vote for Harris, and her vision for democracy, that would be a success.

As I wrote, I redefined what success meant to me — I would be happy if I just made this difficult time a little easier for someone. And now, with just days to cross off my calendar, I realize success lies less in the outcome and more in the process.

I have become more through my research, writing, learning, and understanding. I have grown, changed, and shifted my perspective. And as writer Nancy Sylvester pointed out in her article describing the dilemma she faces as a Catholic leader and a politically
