That Could Never Happen in the United States
Could we see our own Holocaust?
We are so much worse off than I knew. So much more work to do.
We really aren’t who I thought we were, which means I am not who I thought I was.
I believe we are all one.
So if half of us rally to the cry of a man who hates, demeans, lies as he breathes, sins against God, commits crimes against his fellow man… then the whole I thought I was part of is half dis-eased… and I am too.
My kaleidoscope has shifted; I feel like I’m flailing in an ocean, no shore in sight.
I live in a world that has suddenly become more inhospitable because I see it now, clearly. And I can never un-see it. No matter who wins this election, the starting point is the same. We live in a very sick country — half of it doesn’t believe in equality, equity, liberty and justice for all… much less democracy itself.
I watched Rachel Maddow last Monday who spoke with the widow of Alexei Navalny, Yulia (Abrosimova) Navalnaya. Killed by Putin after years in a Russian prison, he had been the leader of the opposition movement to Putin’s rule. That was after more than a decade of harassment, retribution, poisoning, and jail because he openly criticized Putin’s regime.
