As an exercise psychologist and workout enthusiast I found your perspectives spot on, and was so jazzed to read that you used Self-Determination Theory to support the process of working towards your goal. I used SDT as the basis for my dissertation on the relationships among exercise, self-compassion and body image in middle-aged woman.
My question: Once you reached 1,000 push-ups, did you set another push-up goal, keep doing 1,000 push-ups regularly, or just stay consistent with some other amount of push-ups…?
